Day 1 - Safely Arrived in Honduras and OLR

The flights from DCA and Miami were easy and my host/teacher picked me up at the San Pedro Sula airport. After a short bus ride and a bit of a rain shower we arrived at the Our Little Roses Compound. I am the only student or visitor here, except for 4 volunteers who are spending a year here. So I will have private lessons!!!!

This is a photo of my OLR apartment - it's bigger than where I live in DC!

I won't even try to sleep on the top bunk!!

This is the view from my apartment door - it is a School for the Blind.

Adios for now!

Ahh memories...there is where I made my peanut butter toast...There is the part of the floor I had to sleep on because I was too sick to move. BTW, they rearranged the bunkbeds!! Loren and I both chose the top bunk - arent you afraid of hitting your head when you wake up??? Good luck in your classes!!I look forward to following your experience online!! (Also, I dont know how to sign in with this site so I think you will get my aol screen name which is scaredofhippos - dont get confused). Peace! Robin

Hola, Beth, and Happy 2008 in Honduras--you go, girl! What a great adventure for you. I hope you enjoy every moment; it sounds like a really rich experience and a great milieu. Nothing like immersion to help you really learn a language--head to the market when you feel up to it and haggle for things. That's lots of fun, if you're in the right frame of mind. As for me, I started Bp. Carol Gallagher's class today, and I think it'll be a great week. Jan. term is really nice and low key, just what I needed. Take care, stay healthy--
